Earth Hour is 8:30 p.m. (local time) on Saturday, March 27th, 2010 - join in and switch off your lights!
Earth hour has become the largest environmental movement in history and is a way for anyone to show their support for climate action.
A poll commissioned after last year's Earth Hour - by WWF Canada - shows that more than half of all adult Canadians (52%) participated in WWF's Earth Hour.
In 2010, electricity
consumption dropped by 18 megawatts around the time of earth hour and that is equivalent to turning out about 360,000 lights. While in 2009, electricity
consumption dropped by 20 megawatts - 400,000 lights (NB Power data). Earth Hour first began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when and estimated 2.2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights for one hour.
Now held on the last Saturday of March every year, Earth Hour is organized by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature.
