Bayou Pub & Eatery: A wonderful “neighbourhood” pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere

by Heather Ferguson

Shediac’s Bayou Pub & Eatery is one of the most popular meeting places in town for both locals and seasonal visitors to this seaside retreat alike!

A wonderful “neighbourhood” pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, it is the “Cheers” of Shediac. Like its famous television counterpart, “it is a place where everyone knows your name,” according to owner Hugh Borlase.

The Bayou Pub & Eatery is comprised of an intimate, casual pub and a newly expanded, more upscale full service restaurant. As their byline states, they have a “New look! Same great food and service”! Offering nightly live entertainment, the Bayou Pub & Eatery offers “Theme Nights” in both food and entertainment. “We highlight every type of music,” says Hugh Borlase,” including country, contemporary, and rock, and we offer many local acts a place to showcase their talents.” Such touring bands as Highway Star, The Stables, Andy Brown Band, Road Rage, Big Whale, Shirley Albert & Friends, and Jeremy Reid & the Machine are featured on Friday and Saturday nights in June’s Calendar of Events.

At the Bayou Pub & Eatery, the menu choices are varied and eclectic. “Of course, our seafood is the main attraction,” says Hugh Borlase. “After all, we are the seafood capital of the world, and we have the largest lobster roll in Atlantic Canada!” Alternate offerings in surf n’ turf, wings, pasta, and healthy choices in salads and soups augment a menu that features daily specials Sunday to Thursday with such tempting fare as fish& scallops every Sunday, homemade fricot & sandwich every Monday, shrimps & scallops every Tuesday, Shediac’s best fish n’ chips every Wednesday, and wings & shrimp every Thursday. With a fully licensed bar in both the pub and diningroom, a range of beverages includes the favourite Sub Zero beer available here as one of only 700 locations nationwide!

Bayou Pub & Eatery is owned by Hugh Borlase and Claude Poirier, with day-to-day operations handled by Mr. Borlase who has over 20 years of experience in the industry. Having managed similar locations in Moncton and Fredericton, the Bayou Pub & Eatery exudes the vision, know-how, and open, friendly qualities Mr. Borlase himself and the staff of 30 employees possess. Open year round, this establishment is a popular meeting place for early morning business sessions, lunchtime relaxation with friends, or even a more formal Christmas, birthday, or anniversary party for larger groups. On the snowmobile trail system, it’s a popular spot for ski-dooers too, and near to Parlee Beach, it attracts the summer crowd anxious for great food, refreshing drinks, and a relaxing, down-home atmosphere.
